Most see it as an insurmountable barrier, but Janet sees an accomplishment waiting to happen. Her secret? Self-discipline.As Janet dives into her work, she notices her colleague, Thom, who views a similar project as an impossible barrier to his next promotion and his success. Lacking self-discipline (and confidence), Tom feels paralyzed by the sheer scope of the task. He procrastinates, overwhelmed by the challenge.Meanwhile, Sarah, another director, approaches the project with unwavering confidence. For Sarah, the outcome is a foregone conclusion of success. Her self-discipline fuels her ability to manage her time, set clear goals, and stay motivated, visualizing her outcomes of success even when the going gets tough.Through relentless focus, daily goal-setting, and unwavering commitment, Janet and Sarah turn their challenges into milestones of success. This week’s The Bold Brief provides 𝗔 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. I have 4 kids ages 18-24 and I think this gives an lively insights into the world we live in - a world full of endless distractions and instant gratification. The ability to stay focused on anything, especially our long-term life and career goals can seem elusive. However, establishing and developing self-discipline can be one key that transforms dreams into reality. I believe that self-discipline is one of the driving forces behind success in life and the foundation upon which personal and professional growth is built. Most people want some level of personal fulfillment, achievement of dreams, and personal resilience. Self-discipline enables you to pursue your passions and interests with unwavering dedication. It allows you to prioritize what truly matters, ensuring that your actions align with your values and aspirations. The dreams you hold close to your heart or that you shout from rooftops are are achievable milestones waiting to be reached. Self-discipline acts as the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be. Life is full of ups and downs, and the ability to persevere through tough times is crucial. Self-discipline strengthens your resilience, empowering you to face adversity with confidence and grace. By cultivating self-discipline, you build the resilience needed to overcome obstacles and stay the course, no matter how challenging the journey may be. When I see my kids navigating their world, I see how important self-discipline has been an important key to life helping each of them to navigate life -challenges and opportunities alike.

55% 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝! ...𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘋𝘌𝘐𝘉𝘑 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. June celebrates the LGBTQ+ community with vibrant events, honoring their ongoing fight for equal rights and justice. But, the impetus to change is often halted by a lack of communication and confidence. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐝; 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞.A survey of 1090 people found that 55% of people are too scared to strike up a DEI-based conversation (RightTrack Learning, 2024). Honestly, no one likes to make a mistake. Most people don’t want to offend; the lack of conversation skill and confidence hinders open communication. But, if we stay in our individual cocoons of safety, we will never move toward a more inclusive society. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Justice (DEIBJ) discussions are crucial for creating thriving workplaces and a better world. Start today. Use these strategies to reduce the fear of making a mistake and learn the right tools to engage in DEIBJ conversations. 1. 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 & 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞Psychological safety fosters an environment where vulnerability is met with curiosity, not judgment. Establish a shared purpose to focus the conversation and ensure everyone understands why it matters.2. 𝐁𝐢𝐚𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧Uncovering biases is ongoing work. Encourage self-reflection and consider team exercises to collectively identify and mitigate blind spots. See my newsletter this week. 3. 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧Establish communication guidelines, emphasizing inclusive language, active listening. Encourage participants to center marginalized voices and be mindful of their own power and privilege.4. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬The choice between 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒖𝒕depends on the situation and your relationship with the individual. Tailor your approach for maximum impact.5. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 & 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥Prepare responses for common pushback, but also be ready to adapt. Focus on understanding the underlying concerns, addressing them with empathy, facts. These strategies will open the door to communication and build your confidence so that you can reduce your own fear of making a mistake. In the professional world, especially in healthcare, embracing a kaleidoscopic approach means being open to continual change, valuing diversity and equity, championing inclusivity, enabling belonging, and driving justice while committing to creative solutions 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭. June is a month dedicated to celebrating and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community with colorful rainbow flags, parades, and marches. Pride also honors the LGBTQ+ community's ongoing fight for equal rights and justice, rooted in their rich history. As June 2024 and Pride month nears conclusion, consider this a reminder to 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 in 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓work and life.
