Blackpool Airshow is returning this weekend, with two days of sensational aerial displays set to go ahead. From August 10 to August 11, thousands of aviation enthusiasts will gather along the seafront to watch a diverse range of aircraft take to the skies.

This year's line-up includes the famous Red Arrows, a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and breath-taking stunts from the wingwalkers.

The event is completely free to attend and will take place on the Blackpool Promenade. As well as the performances in the skies, visitors can explore the Air Show Village, which will feature a range of stalls, attractions and food concessions.

Blackpool Airshow takes place on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11. The postcode for the air show is FY1 1AP.

How to get there

Travelling to the air show by train is the most convenient and eco-friendly way to get to Blackpool. The nearest station to the event is the Blackpool North and it is just a ten minute walk from the seafront, the North Pier and the Pleasure Beach.

Coach travel is another option with the Manchester Coach station running buses from the city centre to Blackpool pretty regularly. For those worried about a coach being a longer journey, the travel times are almost identical with average time for a coach from Manchester to Blackpool lasting one hour and fifteen minutes and a the average duration of a train ride taking one hour twelve and minutes.

Blackpool Central Coach Station sits behind Coral Island Family Arcade, which is just a short walk from the seafront where the main attraction will be.

For those who want ultimate convenience, driving to Blackpool might be their best choice. While there are plenty car parks and parking options in the town, they are likely to fill up fast and could prove costlier than using public transport when factoring in fuel costs.

However, if you are driving in then follow directions to the postcode FY1 4BJ. Once in the town centre, you will have to follow local signs to guide you to the right direction or closest parking spots.

The promenade will be open both days from 10am to 5pm while. The Airshow Village will be open from 10am to 6pm on both days. Here are the times for the weekend:

Parking

With car parks close to the promenade, the Golden Mile, town centre and Blackpool Tower set to fill up fast, drivers have been advised to park their cars further out of town and to walk to the show site, if possible.

Below is a list of all council-operated car parks in and around the promenade that can be paid for with the PayByPhone system. Customers can pay using the app, their debit card over the phone or online.

Free parking

While they fill up very quickly, there are a number of roads near the South Pier and the Sandcastle that offer free parking.

  • Osborne Road.
  • Balmoral Road.
  • Dean Street.
  • Thirlmere Road.

Overnight in the town centre and on Sundays:

There is the option to leave your vehicle overnight. A selection of roads offer free parking from 6pm to 8am the following day, they are also free all day on Sundays.

The roads are:

  • South King Street
  • Regent Road

  • Leamington Road

Albert Road is free overnight from 6pm to 9am.
